At least 25 crewmembers of a fishing boat were rescued after their vessel sank off Basilan early Thursday, a Mindanao news site reported. The fishing boat sank after seawater seeped through a hole on its wooden hull, according to a report on MindaNews. Of the 25 crewmembers, 16 were rescued by crew of passing motorized bancas, while nine were rescued by Coast Guard rescue teams. Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao spokesman Lt. S.G. Jomark Angue said the boat sank 12:30 a.m. Thursday near Big Sangbay and Small Sangbay islands in Hadji Muhtamad in Basilan. Citing initial information reaching the Coast Guard, he said the boat came from the Zamboanga Fish Port Complex in Barangay Sangali and was heading for Basilan.
