Five Malaysians were among 15 injured in a hot air balloon accident in Guvercinlik Valley in Cappadocia, Turkey earlier today. An American Chinese was also killed in the 8.15am (4.15pm Malaysian time) incident, while one of the Malaysians is said to be in a critical condition. It is learnt that the balloon had taken off from Goreme in Nevsehir province in Central Anatolia this morning when two hot air balloons had come into contact, on air causing it to crash. CNN Turk reported that sudden gust of wind caused the balloon to fall heavily to earth as it was trying to land. All those injured, including a group of nine Brazilians who on board the hot air balloon had been rushed to the Versa Hospital. A Malaysian Embassy spokesperson in Ankara said the crash site is 280 kilometres away from Ankara and two Malaysian embassy officials are on the way to the scene and Versa Hospital. "We are still trying to obtain more details of the incident and the Malaysians involved. But as of now, details of the incident are still sketchy," he said. He said based on the initial information gathered, the five are all tourist on holiday in the country.
