The San Antonio Water System reports more than 100,000 gallons of sewer water leaked out of a construction site overnight Friday on the Northwest Side. Contractors were replacing a 24-inch sewer main behind Ingram Park Mall as part of a larger construction project when a section collapsed, allowing the sewage to escape, a press release from SAWS said. "Most likely it was related to the storms last night," SAWS spokeswoman Anne Hayden said, adding that a combination of sewage and rainwater leaked from the collapse. Hayden said the contractor saw the spill early this morning and immediately began cleanup efforts. No adverse impacts from the spill have been observed, officials said. SAWS crews were at the site throughout the day and will continue to monitor the area. Replacement of the 24-inch sewer main with the new 36-inch main is scheduled for completion next week.
