Description:
A 757 cargo plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Portland International Airport on takeoff Wednesday, according to a Port of Portland official. Spokeswoman Kama Simonds said that at least five northern pintail ducks struck the plane as it took off just after 6:30 p.m., causing it to have engine problems. The cargo plane was flying for Air Transport, a contractor for DHL, she said. After turning around, the plane landed safely on the south runway, which was closed for about an hour for cleaning. Simonds said so far five ducks have been found, but more could have hit the plane. The plane taxied back to the cargo ramp. Simonds said it will not make its daily run to Boeing Wednesday night. No one was injured.
