Twelve people have been shot dead in a terrorist gun attack at the satirical magazine Charlie Hedbo headquarters in Paris. It is reported that a publication editor and lead cartoonist were among those journalists who were slain. Others escaped to the building's roof where they filmed the horrific attack. Witnesses described the scene as "butchery, a real slaughter" as 50 shots were fired. The French police have launched a major man hunt as the killers remain at large, although it is reported that at they hijacked a car to make their escape. The extremist Islamic State group has threatened to attack France. Minutes before the attack Charlie Hebdo had tweeted a satirical cartoon of that extremist group's leader giving New Year's wishes. French president Francois Hollande said it was a "terrorist attack" which had left France in a state of shock. He said: "At this moment we have 11 people killed, four critically injured. This is not the final figure.
