A total of 422 people have been evacuated in two districts in Sabah after 11 villages there were flooded today. Up to 406 people from 130 families were moved out of their homes in 10 villages in the Kota Belud district to a relief centre in Dewan Tun Said. Kota Belud district officer Abdul Gari Gari Itam said he expected more people to leave their homes as there had been requests for evacuation. “Rescue agencies are monitoring the situation and carrying out rescue operations,” he told Bernama. Abdul Gari said the level of Sungai Kadamaian was at the danger mark of 5.50metres. Meanwhile, Tawau Fire and Rescue Department chief of operations Faisal Ahmad said 16 people from four families in Kampung Rugading in Wakuba, had been evacuated to the house of Kampung Wakub headman, Abdul Majid Ali. He also said that the occupants of seven flooded house in the village had refused to move out despite being advised to do so. Tawau Police chief ACP Awang Besar Dullah, when contacted, advised people living in low-lying areas to be alert and watch over their children. Sabah Meteorological Services Department director Abdul Malik Tussin, when contacted, said the sky would be overcast with intermittent rain showers until late tonight.
