Two A-10s en route to Germany had to land at Amsterdam on Friday when one of the planes had an in-flight emergency, according to U.S. Air Forces in Europe. "During the landing, the first aircraft experienced tire failure," USAFE said in a statement Friday to Air Force Times. "No injuries have been reported. "A maintenance crew is en route to recover the airmen and aircraft." Pictures on Twitter purportedly show an A-10 that ran off the runway at Amsterdam, but USAFE later said the plane had not go off the runway when it landed. Both planes deployed from the 355th Fighter Wing, Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona, the USAFE statement says. The Air Force has sent a total of 12 A-10s on a six-month rotation to Europe, during which they will train with NATO allies and be forward deployed to Eastern Europe. When the first plane encountered the emergency, the second plane accompanied it to Amsterdam to make sure the pilot landed safely, the USAFE statement says. "A full investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the in-flight emergency and damage," the statement says.
