Description:

Hot ash clouds from Mount Sinabung led to fires in Suka Meriah village, Karo regency, North Sumatra on Wednesday night. Mount Sinabung observation station head Armen Putra said the mountain discharged hot ash clouds at about 7 p.m., which spread as far as 4 kilometers to the south, engulfing several houses in Suka Meriah. "The eruption has caused no casualties as the villagers have long been relocated," Armen told The Jakarta Post. Displaced resident Alfinus Ginting said he witnessed an explosion of lava, saying that the mountain had also discharged volcanic ash to the east toward Berastagi, located some 30 km away. Suka Meriah, which is some 3 km from the volcano's crater, was one of villages classified as being within the danger zone since Mt. Sinabung erupted in 2013.
