Some 43 factory workers on the way to work this morning were seriously injured after the bus they were in lost control and crashed into a construction flyover near the Free Industrial Zone (FIZ) in Bayan Lepas at about 6am. The impact of the crash caused some of the workers to be thrown out of the bus. Meanwhile, the roof of the bus was also ripped off. According to a Bayan Baru Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson, most passengers, including the bus driver, were stuck in the vehicle and rescue workers took nearly an hour to bring those trapped out. A few ambulances which arrived at the scene brought the victims to Penang Hospital for treatment. Bus driver D. Asoghan was overheard telling a traffic policeman that he tried to slow down the bus as it was approaching a right turn into the factory area of the FIZ near the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah bridge when he noticed it kept going straight instead of turning right.
