Health officials in Queensland, Australia, issued an alert to local media and the public on Wednesday after doctors determined a man was a measles patient. The Australian man carrying the measles virus visited several public events including a football game attended by more than 30, 000 people in Brisbane. He also attended several bars and many public places during the 10-day infectious period. The virus-caused measles results in severe skin rash and fevers, and is highly contagious. There was an outbreak of the disease in the United States in recent months, partially blamed on parents not immunizing their children against measles.
