The week's hot weather continued Thursday, reaching record-breaking heights in some parts of the Bay area. In Tampa, the high temperature for Thursday was 88 degrees, breaking the previous record of 87, which was set in 1977. The high temperature recorded at Sarasota/Bradenton International Airport was 88 degrees, topping the previous record of 86, which was set in 2012. Rain showers moved through the area early Thursday and, according to Bay News 9 meteorologist Diane Kacmarik, additional showers may return during the evening. "We will have a dry afternoon but the seabreeze will bring back the rain chances again later today," she said. Rain chances later in the day will be about 20 percent. On Friday, they should increase slightly to 30 percent, with conditions turning breezy.
