Description:

Public health officials in the Lanaudière, north east of Montreal, says there are now 80 confirmed cases of measles across the region. That's up from 10 cases just a month ago, and 25 cases less than two weeks ago. Health officials says the rapid spread comes as no surprise because the people who have become infected had not been vaccinated and were being followed closely because of the expectation that they would eventually contract the disease. The outbreak was touched off in early February with the return of ten people from two families who had traveled to Disneyland in Caifornia.
