Two fully-loaded school buses carrying students from Summer Creek Middle School were involved in an accident involving injuries on Monday afternoon, the Crowley Independent School District confirmed. MedStar spokeswoman Brett Lyle reported that 31 students and both of the drivers had been transported to hospitals by ambulance. A district spokesman said there were 60 to 70 students on the two buses. Most of the injuries involved whiplash and cuts. By early evening, all but one of the patients had been treated and released. The accident happened on Summer Creek Drive near the intersection with Summer Park Drive in far southwest Fort Worth. Lyle said an "ambulance bus" was dispatched to help deal with multiple casualties, but added that there appeared to be no life-threatening injuries involved. A district spokesman confirmed that one bus rear-ended the other, but said the cause of the accident remains under investigation. Aerial views showed heavy damage to the back of the first bus. A student who was on the first bus said the driver had pulled over to deal with some students who were yelling; that's when the second bus struck. The Fort Worth Fire Department confirmed that the first bus was stopped in the driving lane of Summer Creek Drive "to assess a situation on the bus." The department said the driver of the second bus was "unable to stop" after cresting a hill. There was "significant damage" to both buses, the fire department added.
