Storms damaged more than 1,000 houses and large areas of rubber and fruit farms in several regions late Wednesday, and meteorological staff warn of more violent weather to come in the next few days. The Meteorological Department said on Thursday that a strong high pressure area from China covered Thailand and would cause more storms, including hail. On the good side, temperatures could fall by 6-8 degrees Celsius. Heavy rain and strong winds damaged more than 1,000 houses in many provinces in the upper part of the country late Wednesday and overnight. In Nakhon Phanom province, about 500 houses were damaged, most of them in Phon Sawan district. In Phrae province, a storm affected about 300 houses, with the worst damage in Wang Chin district. A hailstorm damaged about 200 houses in Ban Khwao district of Chaiyaphum. Another hailstorm damaged about 150 houses and injured one person in Si Samrong district of Sukhothai. In Lom Sak district of Phetchabun, about 80 homes were damaged. In Si Sa Ket, about 40 houses were damaged in Khun Han and Kantharalak districts and one person was slightly injured. Storms damaged about 20 houses in Samko district of Ang Thong and about 15 houses in Phop Phra district of Tak. In Trat province, a storm damaged vast areas of rubber, durian and banana plantations in Bo Rai district and affected dozens of houses in Khao Saming district. In Uttaradit, a storm heavily damaged glass panes, roofs and ceilings of two buildings at Uttaradit Rajabhat University in Muang Uttaradit district.
