Health officials in Tokyo's Katsushika Ward said Tuesday that 104 people suffered food poisoning after eating bentos (boxed lunches) from a store between Jan 31 and Feb 5. TV Asahi reported that the tainted food came from bento maker Mitoya. The customers and employees-men and women ranging in age from 23 to 81-suffered vomiting and diarrhea. The ward health care center detected the norovirus in six patients and two Mitoya employees. Officials believe the norovirus came from gloves worn by employees who prepared the bentos. Mitoya delivers 1,200 lunch bentos a day to 43 companies in Katsushika and Sumida wards. Ward officials ordered the company to suspend its business operations for three days from Feb 9-11.
